Introduction to Community Day School
School District Mission Statement:
The School District enables students to be life-long learners and productive citizens by developing partnerships and by promoting excellence, tolerance and self-worth.
Community Day School
Mission Statement:
Our purpose is to develop life-long learners by providing quality
standards based education through a caring staff, supportive families, and
an involved community. We strive to create an environment that promotes
self-esteem, develops a sense of responsibility, and nurtures respect for
others, thereby providing the basis for participation in a democratic
society.
District Priorities
Positive Relations & Communication: Parents will participate as
partners in the education of their children and receive timely
communication about their children’s academic and social progress.
Student Achievement: All students will reach high standards,
attaining proficiency or advanced in all coarse subject areas.
Alternative learning: Every student will have the opportunity to
excel in an enriched and challenging curriculum.
Staff Development: All staff members will receive ongoing training to
increase student achievement, work on district priorities, become highly
qualified and grow personally and professionally.
Note to Parents:
Please carefully review the material contained in the Parent/Pupil Handbook and discuss appropriate sections with your child.
School District Community Day School operates on the Zero Tolerance philosophy for violence, drugs and alcohol. This means that we do not tolerate any form of drugs, alcohol or violence. Students who participate in these types of activities will be suspended or expelled. To anonymously report acts or threats of school violence:
Call 1-877-422-SAFE (7233) (Toll Free – 7 days per week, 24 hours per day)
Arrival & Dismissal (Regular and Minimum Day Schedules)
Students are required to attend school for six hours per day, 360 days per year. The district has no ability to change this requirement, no short days can be arranged, even if a student really does need a shorter day
because of behavior or emotional issues. By California State Education Code, Community
Day School does not observe any minimum days.
According to the state attendance requirements, students are allowed only three absences per
year. When a student reaches ten absences, tardies or early releases you will be sent a letter and legal proceedings will begin. If your child is having some kind of issues that are causing you to have difficulty getting them to get to school, you really should contact the teacher and work together to figure out how to help.
Annual Adjustment to Liability of Parent or Guardian for Willful Pupil Misconduct
Education Code Section 48904 (a)(1) provides that the parent or guardian of a minor is liable for all damages caused by the willful misconduct of the minor that results in the injury or death of any pupil, school district or private school employee, or school volunteer. The parent or guardian is also liable for damages to real or personal property belonging to a school employee, resulting from the willful misconduct of the minor. The liability of the parent or guardian is limited to $10,000, adjusted annually for inflation.
Section 48904 (a)(1) also specifies that the parent or guardian of a minor is liable for any reward, not exceeding $10,000 (adjusted annually for inflation) paid pursuant to Government Code Section 53069.5. Section 53059.5 allows local agencies to offer to pay a reward for information leading to the identification and apprehension of any person who willfully damages or destroys property, or whose willful misconduct results in injury or death to any person.
